Sustainability is, and always has been, an obvious and natural part of Kasthalls’ identity and growth. Our environmental responsibility permeates the entire production chain. From raw material selection to production, transportation and waste. It comprises emissions to air, water as well as recycling.
KASTHALL’S PALETTE RUG REFLECTS THE COLORS OF AN ARTIST AT WORK Kasthall Design Studio drew on archive materials, colors and designs from the factory’s long history to create this year’s new rug collection. The 2020 collection from Kasthall called “Colors in Between” is an exploratory tribute to the captivating encounters that occur when color, shadow and light come together. First out in the collection is Flourish, a hand-tufted wool rug made of residual yarn that brings to mind expansive geometric airfields and the color mosaics of open landscapes.
CLASSIC GRETA IN NEW PLAYFUL TONES Between the years 1987–2015 designer Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg created the majority of Kasthall’s classic rugs, including Greta. This woven wool rug is now being updated in seven new colorways and featured in Kasthall’s 2020 collection Colors in Between.
Kasthall is expanding its design heritage by breathing new life into the classic Fogg rug collection, which is being launched in new colors and shapes this fall. As part of its sustainability work, Kasthall has also developed a related collection of pillows, bringing the Fogg experience to new areas of the home.
Kasthall’s Classic rug, designed by the former design director, Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, was launched in 2011. Seven years later Kasthall is now delighted to present this contemporary classic in nine new colors, from powdery brown, beige and light pink tones to lively pink and turquoise colors. Classic is also being launched in three new patterns, Matris Small, Matris Large and Links.
Black Diamond is hand tufted rug with an abstract expression and clear fashion influences. Kasthalls designer Maja Johansson Starander, sketched and experimented directly on the tufted weave to create the linear pattern in copper and cream on the black base. The aesthetical expression slowly emerged as part of this creative, experimental journey.
For the 2018 collection Legacy of Tomorrow, Kasthall has developed new yarn qualities and techniques for weaving and tufting, which are clearly reflected in Katja and Freyja, two rugs from the new collection. Both are tufted using new wool yarn with a unique undulating, felt-like character, giving them a luxurious yet robust look and feel.
In the 2018 collection, Kasthall has developed new yarn qualities and innovative weaving and tufting techniques. Unique craftsmanship, like embroidery and sketching, has both inspired and been a part of the design process, which is re ected in the new Diamond rug, being launched during the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2018.
Kasthall’s iconic long-pile Moss rug now has an eagerly awaited sister in the new Ines. Like its sister, Ines is a playful, tufted long-pile rug that combines thick wool yarn with shimmering linen. In this timeless and elegant rug, shabbiness meets contrasting bouclé stripes for added volume and depth. Ines launched at Salone del Mobile Milan in 2017.
For the 2017 collection, Kasthall’s design studio has put particular emphasis on future development with the company’s design legacy as its point of departure. The theme of the 2017 collection is Arrival of Origin and during the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2017 Kasthall will be launching the first rugs of the new collection.
The London influence: a city with dramatic buildings, rain shimmering pavements and grand hotel lobbies can be seen in new hand tufted rugs from Kasthall. Designer Maja Johansson, of Kasthall’s design studio, has created Core, Pebble and Pearl, three new collections to be launched at Salone del Mobile 2016 in Milano.
From cool early spring to golden autumn, Gunilla Lagerhem has captured the archipelago’s ever changing landscape in Kasthall’s new design Archipelago 2016. Based on Gunilla’s characteristic design process, where beautiful sketches in water colour are the starting point, Kasthall now presents Archipelago – hand-tufted carpet made with the finest wool and linen with shimmering lurex details.
Tiles is a collection of hand tufted rugs in pure wool designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune. The inspiration comes from the different shapes and dimensions of ceramic tiles. Tiles really is Scandinavian simplicity at its best!

TEKLA ROADSHOW Dont miss the Tekla Roadshow, now visiting Teo Jakob in Zurich. We created the unique coat out of the tufted Kasthall Tekla rug by fashion designer Astrid Olsson at V Ave Shoe Repair. Tekla is one of our most well known tufted rugs here together with ”Ingrid” in pink.
